Stirling Extension
Contemporary single storey extension to developer home
This contemporary extension to an existing home in Stirling was designed to create a generous, light-filled living space with a much stronger connection to the garden.
The new accommodation brings together the kitchen, dining and everyday living spaces, with large areas of glazing drawing natural light deep into the plan and opening the house towards the established garden. A simple material palette of natural timber cladding, dark-framed glazing and crisp contemporary detailing gives the extension its own architectural identity while remaining sympathetic to the existing house.
Internally, the open-plan arrangement creates a sequence of connected but distinct spaces for cooking, dining and entertaining. Full-height glazing and carefully positioned windows frame views of the surrounding greenery, allowing the garden to become an integral part of the interior.
Externally, the timber cladding is articulated with expressed battens and contrasting dark metalwork, giving depth and rhythm to the elevations. The extension opens directly onto the existing terrace, creating an easy transition between inside and out.
The result is a warm and characterful addition that transforms the way the house is used, providing a contemporary family space centred around natural light, garden views and everyday living.
