Perth Extension

Single storey extension within a walled garden

Set within the characterful enclosure of an existing walled garden, this contemporary extension was designed to create a generous, light-filled living space with a strong connection to its secluded garden setting.

The new addition adopts a simple, low-profile form, allowing it to sit comfortably alongside the existing house while establishing a distinctly contemporary architectural language. Dark metal cladding defines the roofline and provides a crisp contrast to the warmth of vertical timber cladding, while extensive black-framed glazing opens the principal living spaces towards the garden.

Internally, the extension creates a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and family area. Large rooflights bring daylight deep into the plan, while full-height glazed doors frame views towards the original stone boundary walls and provide direct access to the terrace and garden beyond.

The material palette was deliberately restrained, combining timber, dark metal and large areas of glass with the existing stonework. The result is a contemporary addition that respects the character of its setting while creating a bright, practical and welcoming heart to the home.
