Orchard Barn, Crossford
A modern interpretation of a traditional barn home.
Our clients approached Nicholas Lindsay Architects in late 2023 to prepare designs for their new home on a rural site outside the town of Crossford. The clients wanted the design to reflect rural and agricultural architecture. Working collaboratively with the clients, we developed proposals, which leaned heavily on traditional barn style homes. We envisioned two ‘barns’ connected with a central flat roof link. The ‘barns’ provide the main living and bedroom accommodation with the central link creating the entrance / circulation areas. Secondary spaces such as cloakroom, bathroom and utility are neatly concealed off the main circulation within a spine wall. To the side there is a large integrated garage and workshop which incorporates the main plumbing and electrical controls for the house. The public area of the house is an open plan layout with large areas of glazing and exposed steel trusses providing a unique and impactful space.
