Extension & renovation in Wormit, Fife
This substantial renovation and extension project transformed an existing family home in Wormit, creating a series of generous, light-filled living spaces that take full advantage of the property’s elevated setting and impressive views across the River Tay.
The design focused on opening up the existing house and establishing a much stronger relationship between the interior, garden and surrounding landscape. Large areas of glazing frame the views and bring natural light deep into the plan, while carefully positioned rooflights introduce daylight from above and add a greater sense of volume to the principal living spaces.
At the heart of the house, a new open-plan kitchen, dining and living area provides a relaxed and sociable focus for family life. Warm timber finishes, natural stone and a restrained palette of contemporary materials bring character and texture to the interior, while the extensive glazing allows the changing landscape to become an integral part of the rooms.
The renovation was conceived as a comprehensive reworking of the existing property rather than simply the addition of new floor area. Existing and new spaces have been brought together to create a coherent home with improved circulation, better natural light and a much stronger connection between the different living areas.
Externally, the extension has been designed to complement the existing house while giving the altered elevations a more contemporary architectural character. The completed project provides a spacious and highly individual family home, shaped around its exceptional outlook towards the Tay and designed to make the most of its setting in Wormit.
