Woodside House, Glasgow
A contemporary house nestled within a mature forest
We had a simple brief for Woodside House - create a contemporary, functional home in keeping with the surrounding forest. We took inspiration from a nearby tree house which had been in place since the client's childhood. Woodside House is formed as a series of tree houses interlinked with lightweight glazing and supported by a large overhanging roof and timber posts. The first floor is largely clad in cedar shingles, again echoing the texture and material of the adjacent trees, while stone has been used to give a more solid appearance to the ground floor.
The layout of the home is largely functional however the clients, who are keen gardeners, desired a large sun room to the rear to keep a watchful eye over their garden. We designed this as a simple glass box but with a large overhanging roof to maintain the internal temperature and provide useful external seating space. There is a large roof lantern ensuring the sun room is flooded with light at all times of the year.
