Leemuir Farmhouse, Carluke
A contemporary interpretation of a traditional Scottish farm house
Our clients approached us to design a contemporary and energy efficient farmhouse suitable for family living. The obvious solution was to demolish the existing substandard house and redundant steading and replace it with a new structure on a similar footprint, providing the type and size of spaces required by the brief. Siting, layout and density of the new dwelling has been considered and the proposal has been set out to respect, complement and connect to its surroundings.
The general concept and brief behind the design of the new replacement dwelling has been to create a contemporary, energy efficient and spacious home suitable for modern living yet maintain a traditional feel, sympathetic with the existing buildings on the site and surrounding locale. The dwelling is designed to be a low impact steading of traditional form and U shaped in plan.
